Back in Widespot there are 5 original founding families. The whole thing as Peni has laid it out fairly screamed bacc to me even though challenges aren't the way I play, at all. I've read more than my fair share. And then they don't look or feel quite like my sims either, which is the fun of it because I have no preconceptions about what should happen to them. Wonderfully punny names (a trend I'll continue only if they come to me as my imagination doesn't naturally wend that way); um, interesting, differentiated faces (another novelty, because while probably none of my sims are omg drop-dead gorgeous...that I can think of, I do regulate the fug, no really extreme distinctiveness—I'm looking at you Mary Land's chin); and the soap opera shenanigans already in progress. So here we go:
The premier family in town, to the chagrin of one or two, are the Beeches

Hamilton's got woman troubles but he doesn't know it. His mother hasn't told him yet.
The Harts

"Are you looking at him, Pop? Look at Rhett. He's gonna ruin our picture."
"Hey, if the boy wants to look like a fool for everyone to see, let him."
*Everybody say 'cheese'! Oh, no? All right then.*
Also, Valentine Hart is the Cat-daddiest of Cat-daddies—just look at that hat and the way it leans, so fresh and so Clean! He doesn't particularly appreciate being called Pop but what Candy started he couldn't stop.
Moving along to the Mann family

When Rich isn't out masterminding crimes or attempting petty newspaper theft, he's...well, frankly you'd do well not to worry too much about how he occupies his spare time, but he's never let his work or hobbies interfere with being the doting husband and provider. Lana's got no complaints, she knows how to be patient. He'll have to retire sooner or later and then she'll have him all to herself.
Junior hates how stingy his old man is with actual cash, he won't even throw a little nepotism his way! Doesn't trust him to be smart enough for the business. All he does do for him is keep him in his favourite cigs—you can't find these around Widespot—but Junior's gotta go through his mom to remind him! It's a hard knock life being only the junior Rich.

The Lands

Homer, Beulah, Mary, Scot, Dixie, River, Delta...are there any more? You sure? Good down home folks, the Lands, everybody'll tell ya. Even if they do treat Mary like a drudge, it's only 'cause she don't mind. Does everything anybody ever asks her, with a smile! Literally can't say no to a body! Mann, oh, man, what a wife she'll make for some lucky son-of-a-gun one day, eh?
The Weiss family

"Aww, little brother, no need to be shy with the camera. You look great!"
"Really?"
" 'Course. Now look up and say Lactose Intolerant!"
Ah, almost forgot. Penny and Woody are not green. They are also not the same colour as one another because I don't imagine Skye was in very great demand. Meaning a species that'd had him already wouldn't be overeager to beam him up again when there are others to pollinate. So Penny and Woody are half-siblings with differing heritages. This may or may not come up in the story but their appearances certainly will.
And lastly, the Ottomas clan...

...who are being included in the meet n' greet for, uh, reasons. The non-storyjumping one being that I forgot to swap my empty templates back in before loading up Widespot. Some families were Deleted 2'd right away but of those I'd chosen to hold on to, the Ottomi fit too well into this town to be denied. There are far too many of them (not counting those still gestating) to waste not-yet-accumulated CAS points on so they were going to be a 'gimme' but instead I worked out a loophole which I rather liked. So they'll be played at the end of Week One and then likely take their alphabetical rank. They're a bit of an aspirational hodgepodge so, unfortunately, they don't contribute to the theme where each family has a dominant aspiration but I've got plans. Grilled cheese family already lined up and their backstory written. Pleasure will require a bit more thought.
The in-game bios are included in the comments section with the download and were the obvious jumping off point for playing these characters. I didn't see any indication that the neighbourhood was made with a challenge like this in mind but having been designed to be base-game compliant it was pretty easy to retrofit to bacc rules. Each household begins on a Friday morning so I took that weekend to jump around willy-nilly and catch the 'hood up with itself before beginning Week One proper.
For instance, Daytona Beech is obviously the Founder. She's already in the Politics track, Level 6. Instead of demoting her I set about catching her up on her duties. Alarms, pools/hot tubs demolished, electrics stashed in inventories until she befriended a mechanical wizard. There wasn't one, yet, but while Valentine was the obvious choice (to me) I had also instituted motivation based limitations, in the grand tradition of going overboard. Valentine ended up being an "average" sim. So while it was perfectly feasible he'd have wanted to pursue those body points he maxed as a Retired Hall of Famer, he was stuck at 7 points mechanical with little chance of rolling a want to press on. Other changes: Beulah Land had to quit her job, the business track is not available, and Skye Weiss became a retired science teacher. Rich Mann and Homer Land I let keep their jobs in the Criminal & Law Enforcement tracks respectively, as a kind of counterbalance, although realistically Homer's Level 4 or so must do little to rein in Rich's "evil genius".

One comm lot "earned" outright: The Widespot folks got to keep their Makeout Spot.
