"Good morning, Dora. Did you sleep well?"
"Not so much, Weiss, not so much."
She was all moved in but with this extra bed taking up space Dora found herself still sleeping alone.
Skye found her tone to be most perplexing. He was not accustomed to such close
intimacy with another but he discovered he did not dislike it. No, indeed, he did not.

"Uh, mornin', Dora."
"Mm-hm. Mornin'."

Woody had succeeded in fashioning a rattle for Una out of wood, she never put it down, not even to hold her own bottle even though she could now.
"Come on, Una. Take it. Let mommy see what a big girl you are when you feed yourself."

"You're up early, little brother. Started a new project?"
"Just finishing up the thing for Una. Why, do we have new orders?"
"No, Peter took the couch as is, just gotta figure out a way to get it to him. Maybe Logan's in town."
"If he is can you see if he'll help me knock down the big wall for Dad's—for Dad and Dora's room, I can't do it myself."
"Sure I'll ask but what about that contractor guy who did the extension on your room? He was kinda hot—oh, and
I wouldn't go in there if I were you, I think Dora's still in the bathroom. She forgets to lock, remember."
"Yeah."
"Well, you forgot to knock!"

If it wasn't bad enough that Virgie was goin' out with Scot, now David was with Goldie and they were all always all over each other, all the time!

Woody's other options weren't lookin' too hot.
(A girl was a girl but Woody wouldn't begin to know what to do with all of...that, or how to approach
either one of them. Last time he tried the noogie manoeuvre, it didn't exactly work out for him.)

Without Dixie and with Scot so focused on Virginia all the time River hadn't found a niche for himself yet but he was studious!

After the school day Skye and Dora walked over to the Lands' together for a few necessaries.
"I'm gonna go pick out a nice pie," she said, leaving him outside.

"You've known Weiss a long time..."
"Aw, shoot, yes. Years now. Penny was a l'il skinny miss, boppin' 'round in them pigtails. Talk, talk, talk. And Woody?
Wouldn't hardly look at ya or open his mouth, 'ceptin' for a good down home meal. We fed them kids up right. Then couldn't get 'em to leave!"
"And Skye?"
"Well...he kept himself to hisself in a lotta ways. But we wore him down, me and mine. And Daytona gettin' after him, o' course.
Almost wouldn't be a town without him. Not like this. He's a good one," Beulah said.

After putting the food away, Dora joined Skye for a lie-down.
"You look deep in thought."
"I was only thinking of other worlds."
"Otherworldly thoughts? Okay. What kinda other worlds you talkin'?"
"The worlds beyond our own, only waiting to be explored, waiting right beyond the vale. In the night sky. I was thinking of what their people must be like."
"People? That's where you lose me. Don't get me wrong, world needs dreamers, but ain't no kinda people up there in that sky.
No kinda people we'd call people. And if there was, whatever they was like, best believe I don't wanna meet 'em."

Skye lingered after Dora got up to get started on dinner, her words stinging to his core.
Her feelings on the subject were extremely unfortunate.
~

Skye was very proud that Woody had found such a productive hobby.
He put so much love and care into his craft, most especially into that which was made for Una.

"Here you go, Una. Give it a whirl."

"I, well, I think that we should talk."
"Okay then."
"Do you recall our discussion of other worlds? Particularly, do you recall what we
were proposing about the sort of people who might originate in those other worlds?"
"Not this again." This ain't what she wanted to talk about, they had stuff in the here and now to work out between 'em.
Dora didn't want to talk no sci fi nightmare nonsense. 'Specially not when she was still curlin' up to nothin' but the pillows.
"Pardon?"

"It is too early in the morning to be ramblin' on about little green men from the sky. I don't share your penchant for inviting some
foreign fantasy folks to come colonise my brains or nothin' o' that nature. It's kinda sweet you like to think the best o' everybody so
much you wanna make that go for the whole dang universe but what I see is a man avoidin' the issue and where does that leave us?"

"Leave us? Where, where is it supposed to leave us?"
"Stuck in the same place, Weiss. Goin' nowhere. Now, if you'll pardon me, I'd like to take a shower before your boy soaks up all the hot water."

Skye was confused. They were not communicating very effectively in person, nothing like the epistolary correspondence they had going.
He was trying to share his reality with her but it was not coming out the right way and she was not being receptive to his information.

"Don't mind Dad, he gets tongue-tied sometimes."
"Oh, that I don't mind. Tell me something, Penny, have there been a lot of women since your mother? Any?"
"My mother?"
"I'm sorry if that's a hurtin' subject but it's been a long time now. I can't fight no ghosts, learned that a long time ago."
"I don't think you need to worry about the ghost of my mother."
"Not literally, no. He never said she passed on. Come to think, he never said much about her at all. What kinda woman was she?"
"I don't know."
"You must remember somethin'. I'm not tryna pry"
"Aren't you?"
"Fair enough. But I mean not in a bad way."
"You need to talk to Dad. If you want those answers."
"Yeah." Dora didn't expect secrets, not from Penny. "Don't take this the wrong way but sometimes it almost seems as if, as if y'all was adopted or something."
"He's my dad regardless of genes, but anyway I've got his eyes. And have you seen Woody's nose? Talk to Dad.
I mean, I'm sorry but the subject of my 'mother' just doesn't interest me. Never did, really. 'She' didn't raise me."

Frustratin' as all get out as he was, there was no denyin' the powerful feelin' she got every time she came near this man.
That was David calling to tell his Gran that he was staying home to help his mom out today.

Without David around Woody saw his way clear to intercepting Goldie.
"You're real good with Una. And she doesn't, okay, Una likes everybody but you're still real good with her. Like when she's cranky."
"Um, thanks. Proxy doesn't like anybody so I get a lotta practice. Better...get back to class."
"Oh. Yeah, we better. Math time. Hate math."
"No, you—wait, no you don't," Goldie said, "You're great at math. I'm the one who stinks."
Okay, so this wasn't working. He was just grasping at stuff to say, stuff she might relate to.

"That swing over there, that's new, right? You made that yourself for Una? That's unbelievable."
"Uh, thanks!" Woody beamed.
"Yeah, I know David's been wondering if, instead of leaving them out in the cold or letting
them make trouble in the barn, if you could build a doghouse for Danny and Sarah or something."
"Big box with a hole in it. Yeah. Yeah, I can do that."
That made Goldie giggle. When he wasn't even trying!
Ahh, she was so pretty...

Dora walked Sharla and Tommy home and ended up delivering her latest grandson into the world.
She was feelin' pretty platinum, all right, and stopped off in Penny's shop on her way back after leaving Petey and the kids.
She loves Penny to death so she didn't want there to be any funky air between 'em after what she said this morning.
"We're good, Dora. No worries."

It wasn't exactly a fair comparison but when Dora saw Valentine as she turned to head out she couldn't help
thinking there was a man who probably never left a woman to keep warm in a bed all by her lonesome.

"That bouncy might be too big to fit if you're looking for the twins, Ms. B, unless you're gonna keep it at your house.
But if that's what you want I can see if Woody can tweak the design, maybe even rig up a two-seater."
"No need to bother 'bout all that, they don't stay little for no time at all."
"Ain't that the truth," Valentine said, coming over. "My little Una'll be transitioning soon, won't she?"
"Yep! It's not for a few weeks but I expect you both at the party."

Valentine wouldn't miss it for anything. He didn't care what his son chose to do about his
baby mamas, Una was his first granddaughter and he was going to be there to celebrate her life.
"Promise I won't buy her nothin' she already passed up," Val joked about Rhett's last misfire in that department.
"You don't have to buy anything, Grandpa! Just be there. You too, Ms. B."

The day ended with a delightful surprise. Goldie was such a sweetie, she and David brought by a puppy for Una!
She was a good aunt. And whenever Penny saw Goldie and Davey together
she practically wanted to pinch their cheeks or something they were so cute.
That was not what Woody felt when he saw them together.

David rolled into town and started hoarding all the girls. Did he have to have all the girls!
Woody went to bed with resentment churning in his stomach but he woke up with his head full of a new idea.
It would be a big project, bigger even than the stuff he'd done for the store because the details would have to
be so intricate to make her like his dream girl. He hopped out of bed and set right to sketching out the design.

Umber Ella Weiss was happy to have joined the family.

On the whole, Dora was well pleased with her expanded family, too.

"You know, if you guys need a break or something I can take Una with me to the store today."
"Don't be silly, she's no trouble. Now, when she's big enough to be up toddlin' around and makin' mischief we
might not be able to look after her with the schoolkids here but we'll cross that bridge when we come to it."

Woody's sketches were still kinda very rough but he was eager to get started and he wasn't much of an artist.
Not for drawing, anyway.
The important thing was that he got the proportions just right.

"Hey Logan! Back in town already? Can't thank you enough for helping out in a pinch with the delivery."
Logan Lorry was like her best customer, he always popped in when he was going through
Widespot to pick out something, usually one of the little knickknacks, he called 'em souvenirs.

Looked like she wasn't the only friend he'd made in Widespot.
Seemed like every time she turned around people were pairing off.

It was a slow day so Penny closed up early and went home.
"Here Umber, look at—"

"Ouch!"

"Woody, don't be so silly, that's not even a factor, okay. You shouldn't talk like that. And you know why," Penny drove her point
home. "Besides, haven't you ever heard that earth girls are easy? C'mon, it'll be fine, little brother. You're just in that weird phase."
"I'm not weird," he protested.
"I didn't mean it like that. So touchy!"

Dora's nap ended suspiciously soon. Woody knew better than to talk like that but
maybe Dad would just go ahead and tell her and they could all move on with their lives.

"Oh. Uh, Penny!!"

"Penny, you have a, um, visitor."
"Hey Pen, whassup!"
Rhett was trying to be as casual as possible but he was nervous. That's why he brought Goldie with him.
She was his ticket past the front door.

Woody dumped Una in Penny's arms and backed away.
She couldn't believe he had the nerve to bounce in here smiling at her like that—no scratch that, this was exactly like him.
But however he thought he could treat her, paying attention to her when he felt like it, he was not going to get away with that with Una!
"So, uh, I'm here," he said.
She was glaring at him with those eyes, man, he didn't know what else to say.
But that did it.

Penny turned away from him and handed the baby over to Goldie.
Rhett's priorities may have still been a little screwy but he was here.
What was she doing?

"I can't hold the baby? She's mine, ain't she?"
"She doesn't know that," Penny said, "And before we do any introductions there are a coupla things you and I have to get clear."

"Follow me, please. Rhett?"

"I guess she's too mad."
"You blame her?" Woody asked.
"No, but...I don't know."

"Okay, so here's the thing, you can't just show up out of the blue and expect me to be impressed. I get that you're
here to meet Una. Finally. And that's a good thing. But, like, what are you offering? And, please, don't talk to me about
some BS proposal of marriage. That was amusing and all but this is real life. And our daughter has real needs."
"Don't try to clown me, Penny, like you haven't been gettin' that child support from day one."

"This is not about the money!" Penny yelled.
She paced the porch to keep her calm but every time she came back to him he dug himself into a deeper hole.
"Most women would know how to be grateful."
"Grateful? Most women? Are you kidding?"
"No, I'm dead ass serious. Most women in your position would respect that I'm doing right by mine."
"In my position?"
"You ain't gotta keep repeating me like I'm not makin' sense."
"So now we're gonna pretend like I'm the other woman? Why the hell did you ask me to marry you then?"
"Thought you just said that was bullshit."
"It was, but you still did it!"
"See, that's exactly what I mean, most women—man, that's that other half o' you shining
through or somethin'. Gotta be, and you know what half I mean, too, cuz that ain't normal."
That was a low blow, using what she told him in confidence against her, but if he thought
she was going to fall to pieces because he chose to try and insult her he was wrong again!
"Look, I'm sorry, Penny, that was a dick thing to say, I didn't mean it like that—"
"If that's how you feel, that's how you feel—"
"Would you just shut up a minute and hear me out. You already know that's not it but it's like, I'm here
tryna do the right thing, like really tryin', and you're all 'too little too late, asshole' but it can't already be
too late. And if it's too little then I'll just keep tryna do better. But you gotta gimme a chance, Pen."

"I am giving you a chance. Did I ask you to leave? No, I asked you to talk to me and instead of
apologising or explaining yourself you jump right to bragging about the handful of simoleons—"
"There you go again. Handful. I work hard for that handful."
"Work harder. Like I was saying, you jump to bragging about the handful of simoleons you put in the mail for your daughter while never
once bothering to come see her since she's been born. Am I s'posed to overlook that? I'm not gonna do that, Rhett. She's not a toy for
you to pop by and play with when you're bored. And neither am I. So I have every right to want to know what you're really doing here."

"Nothing?"
He didn't say anything.
"O-kay. It's getting cold out here, I'm going in. You're welcome to come back when you've got a good answer. Call first."
Damn it Penny! She was as bad as Sandy. Worse even. Makin' him say stuff.
She never used to be like that. He didn't remember her like that, at least.
"I want to be a part o' my daughter's life."
"Good."
"I even brought her a toy—and, no, it's not from your store, it was mine. When I was little. It's clean and everything, it still works, and I want her to have it. If you don't mind."
" 'Course I don't mind. Come on inside. You can give it to her."

Rhett had forgotten about this side of Penny. She was usually so easygoing, that's what he loved about her, but she could be
mean*, too, if you pressed the wrong button. She'd cut him deep, breaking him down like that, but already he wanted her back.

"Aw, look at Una," Woody said when she scooted up to her daddy's gift.
"I did good? For once?"
"Did good," Penny conceded, laughing. "Look at how much she likes it!"
"Oh, this is too cute," Goldie said, whipping out her camera.
"Uh, Goldie, see if you can get one of just the baby so we can, uh, so we can put it up at the house."
Jerkface. Penny made it easy on him and got out of the way. Wouldn't want his precious porcelain doll
pretend wife to be reminded of his other daughter's mother in her own "temporary" abode...pfft.

"I never thought about it before," Goldie said, "but with you being the uncle and me the auntie that kinda makes us related."
Great.
"Wild how that works, right?"
No.
Woody had to get outta there.
"Not with the rattle, too, Una. That doesn't make the right sound. Here let me show you."

She actually let him slip the rattle out of her grip without a fuss.
"See, like this." Dink, dink. "Listen." Dink. "Yeah, there you go!"
Una was less skeptical of the stranger than Proxy had been when they first met but then she was older and Weisser.

"How's it going?"
"It's cool. Look at her, Pen, she's a natural!"

"Uh-oh." Rhett knew that look. "Goldie! Cleanup on Aisle 3!"

"There, Rhett. All clean." Like Goldie didn't get enough of that at home with Proxy
but, fortunately, she didn't mind diaper duty much, it was part of being a good auntie.
"Oh, hey, get a shot of me and the baby," Rhett whispered while Penny wasn't looking.
Didn't know what she might veto with the mood she was in today!
It was about time for them to go, though. Una was going down for her nap and it was a good visit after all was said and done.
"Ooh, wait, Penny look this way. There, gotcha. That's a good one."

Still...it wasn't ever supposed to be this way.
Rhett didn't want no wife but he coulda rocked with Penny. Maybe. And now she didn't want anything to do with him.
"See you around, Rhett."
"Yeah, see ya."
"I mean, we'll be around," Penny said and, as a half-hearted joke, she added, "Call first."

If it wasn't bad enough that Virgie refused to see him as anything more than a friend, Goldie had just freakin' adopted him! They were like family now.
Great, just great. Woody almost slipped and smashed up the fingers on his build-a-friend. They weren't quite right but he didn't want
to have to start over from the beginning! Woody needed to get into the zone before he wound up undoing all his hard labour of love.
~

Dora went ahead and took matters into her own hands.

All that fuss and all it took was a gentle touch.

He was still shy about them changing in the same room, though.
When he came back dressed for bed Dora was more than ready.

*Aww, that was his first kiss ever!*
But while Skye was basking in the moment...

...Dora was makin' moves to get this foreplay started!
"Dora, what are—but don't you think—"
"Relax, it'll all come back to you. Like ridin' a bike."
"I have, I have never ridden a bicycle."
"That so? You don't know what you missed," she said between smothering him with kisses.
"Like ridin' a horse then. And don't you worry 'bout how long that's been. You ain't too old to learn new tricks."
"But—"
"Oh, don't think so much. It's instinct." She was clamping down on top of him while Skye was trying, politely, to inch away until he nearly fell backwards out of bed.
She was all mouth and hands and mammary glands! And, and pelvis. Whoa, nelly! This is not at all what he intended when he suggested their companionate arrangement.
"Dora..."
"Thassright, say my name."
"Dora."

Penny's bedroom is right above Dad's and Dora's. She couldn't make out any pillow talk but she defintely heard what she heard.
Squeak, squeak, bump.
Well, good for them, she guessed.

Another floor up, Woody wasn't asleep yet either.
No woman crawling all over him up there but Woody dreamt of all the potentially infinite
possibilities and, as he didn't want to wait for them, he had to take matters into his own hands.

No cause for congratulations down here.
Crapped out again! Dora never knew the like of him.
Weiss had spent too many years on his own.
There was only so much rejection she was gonna take. If it didn't work, it didn't work. But what was she gonna
do now? At 30 or 40 she'd-a dropped a man in a flash if they weren't compatible in the sack. But now?

Dora didn't know if she could bring herself to pick up and go on Weiss...she just didn't know.

Skye was not oblivious to his predicament, far from it. Dora was unhappy.
She was unhappy with him and with the rate of progression in their relationship.
There was no doubt in his mind that he loved her.
But it was not his mind that she loved.
He could not bear to consider that he might lose her as soon as he'd found her.
Certainly not to anything so banal as the carnal lusts, which must be such a trivial
performance, going through the motions with no productive end in sight at their time of life!
But she was consumed with consummation.
To her mind, he was holding out on her. He tried to explain about Penny and Woody. On multiple occasions he tried.
It was no use, his truth was too far afield from her frame or reference for potential realities and she argued so
vehemently that Skye could not persist and jeopardise her affections. Neither for himself nor toward the children.
To see a shade of mistrust arise between her and Penny...that would be far worse than any judgement upon himself and his shortcomings.
Skye did not know if he ever could be the man that she needed.

"Eat up, Woody, let's put some colour in those cheeks."
"It's the colour I am. That's a problem?" Woody challenged.
"Touchy," Penny cued him to mellow.
"No, Penny. Not touchy, it's the truth. This is what I look like."
"Woody. I didn't mean anything by it. I ain't saying there's anything wrong with the way you look."
He snorted and shovelled down the rest of his waffle without looking anywhere near Dora again.
When he flounced from the table, Penny told her, "it's okay. He's sensitive, but it's fine. I'll talk to him."

Una happily settled in for the day, banging away.
Her daddy's toy was even more effective as a noise maker than Uncle Woody's rattle or her own voice.
Umber often trotted around to get in on the fun.
But she waited today until one of the giants swept the noisy one away and...

No! No! That's the baby's rug!

"Bad dog."
"Dad, don't tell me 'Brella really just peed all over Una's stuff!"
Skye set about cleaning up but mopping only made it worse.
"That was a very naughty trick you played, soiling Una's rug."
"Aw, leave her be, Weiss. She's a baby and that's what babies do. Case in point." Dora pointed
to Una's toxic fumes. "Here now, you take Una and change her and I'll get the rug scrubbed up."
Her paws barely touched the floor before Woody had scooped up the puppy.
"Come here, little Umbriel. Is everybody yelling at you for making a mess? I know, I know, you didn't mean it. The neatniks don't understand."
"She did, too, mean it but she's gonna have to stop competing with Una. And it's Umberella, Woody,
don't confuse her—And stop coddling her when she's done something wrong," Penny called out
"Stupid name for a dog, for our dog."
"If she keeps this up, I'm gonna rename her Puddles!"

"Thanks for looking after Una."
"Think nothing of that, my Penny. We do for whom we love."

Dora was as good as her word.
Regardless of what went on, or didn't, between her and Weiss, she was committed to this family.

"Ah, Una, your mother has gone out tonight to 'have a life' so we are on our own."
Dora went to her son's like she always does a few times a week but she decided to stay over tonight.
Skye was both disappointed that she felt the need and relieved.
"You are a very fortunate little one to have my Penny for a mother. Against all the odds,
she is so brave and so free. She will know exactly how to teach you...what no one taught me."
And what, in turn, no one taught Woody.

Woody's project was really beginning to take shape since shifting his workspace. He was
much better able to work on the finer sculpting points and polishing, undisturbed, up in his room.

Work was good, home was good—Una's father was even finally making an effort but, by that same token, it was so obvious
that they were never ever getting back together. Like ever.** So Penny was making time to go out and have herself a
social life. Her friends were pretty much into their own stuff right now but that wasn't gonna stop her havin' fun on her own.

"Hiya Petey."
"Penny."
"Taking advantage of that free babysitting tonight, huh? I don't blame you. Where's Sam? She didn't feel like takin' a breather, too?"
"Nah. I mean, she came here with me before and she liked it all right but it's not really her scene. Plus with the baby practically just born..."
"Yeah, I can understand that. When Una was a newborn, hmm, guess I didn't really let that slow me down, but I had my dad and your mom
and Woody, but the babies are why I didn't ask my friend Mary to come with—you know Mary, right? It's not really her 'scene' either but as soon
as her twins are big enough to pry her away for a night that's what I'm gonna do. Nobody needs fun like a stay at home mother, trust me."
Peter nodded, might be something in what she said but, well, tonight was tonight, he could worry about Sammie tomorrow.
But Penny's words didn't fall on deaf ears, regardless. She had manged to pique trucker guy's interest without even trying.

Peter had to laugh to himself when that redhead came over and started dancing with the other guy, she'd already
tried to pick him up over by the door so she must've been on to the next. Good for it, she wasn't who he was lookin' for.

"Come on, Penny, dance with me." It was only dancing.
If he was honest, Peter had the odd thought about Penny but he wouldn't ever violate his ma's trust like that.
She came first. No need to go blurring the lines when life for their family was already plenty complicated.

Penny had only seen Hamilton once since the last time they were standin' at this very spot together, when he came to apologise for what happened.
But it wasn't his fault, he had every right to be drowning his sorrows. She hoped he wasn't
still drowning and was just out for a good time. At least he sounded like himself tonight.

"Thanks Grandpa Hart."
Valentine shook his head. "Any time, Penny."
Penny and Hamilton wandered off to mingle. It was hard to not talk about that thing, that disaster of a thing they had in common, not the half-sister
their kids shared—Penny wouldn't call the baby a disaster—but the betrayal that led to her, yeah that. But they were friends, long before any of that
happened. They had to have other stuff to talk about. Peter helped Penny out with that when he started yelling at that strange woman behind them.
"Somebody doesn't wanna take no for an answer."
"Romance sim."
"How can you tell?"
"It's a thing they do. Not all of them, but a lot. Watch. Oh, she's just standing there now, can't believe he turned her down."
"He better had. Peter's married!"
Hamilton didn't go there.
"Not to butt in, but I don't think you can just read people's aspirations like that. Seems kinda superficial."
"Some sims are superficial. And even some that aren't wear it all on the surface," Hamilton responded.
"What do you think?" he turned to Penny, "Do you believe most sims have no depth to speak of?"
Not what he said, but Hamilton didn't care to argue the point.
Pretty obvious that guy was waiting on him to get out of the way so he could take a clear shot at Penny, so Hamilton took the hint and left them to it.

'Course Penny had noticed him trailing her around, maybe too shy to be direct about snatching a moment of her time.
His name was Robbie and Robbie seemed nice enough, he just wasn't her type. Not that her type was much to write home
about judging by her experiences so far but she wasn't willing to go in the completely opposite direction with a guy with no spark.

Lana. Again.
Valentine spotted her the second she stepped foot in the door and he went to cut her off at the pass.
He wasn't in the mood for her today.

"Got yourself an admirer, huh?"
"Shut up."
"Ditched him already? Where'd he go?"
She shrugged. "I'm one up on you. Want another?"
"Doubt that," Hamilton said. He hadn't entirely abandoned the habit of having one or two before heading out. "You tending bar?"
Penny gazed down at the glass in her hand. "Looks like it." She remembered filling it up but it happened
almost by rote, she didn't really notice she'd done it. But why not? She was kinda, sorta family and Valentine
was busy. "On the sly, though." She winked, she didn't think Grandpa Hart would mind. "What'll you have?"
"Know how to make Sweet Hijinks?"
Not really but that wasn't gonna stop her. "Comin' up!"

Penny's mixology skills weren't up to snuff, she was kinda heavy handed, but how's that a bad thing?
"Oof," she said after draining her next glass to the last drop, "we're gonna have to pay for that extra super buzz. Gimme your
wallet," she teased, making for Hamilton's pockets while he shifted and swivelled around trying to dodge her pokey little fingers.
"Hold up now, you poured it, you pay," he said, swatting her away.
Penny's "admirer" came around again to give it one more shot but once the silliness erupted he gave up trying to compete for her attention.
It was obvious she'd rather just goof around with her friend.

Val didn't feel like havin' this out with Lana. Not here, not now.
"If I didn't know any better I'd think you were avoiding me, dear Hart."
"I don't do avoid," Val told her, "Might do postpone. If that's all right with you."
Not that he waited for an answer. He walked away from her but she wouldn't stop hovering.
"I don't think it is all right, come to that."
"Look," Val pulled her to the side, "I heard what you been sayin' about my daughter."
"Well, she—"
"And I don't appreciate it. Your ex did you dirty, no way around that. But you keep my daughter's name outta your mouth."
"But Valentine..." Lana tried her wheedling voice on him.
"No, Lana. I mean what I say."
Lana wasn't ready to let him go so she held her tongue but she made no promises, to him or herself, to keep holding
it when it came to that little upstart bitch who stole her life. He didn't seem to be aware of their latest altercation
and she only hoped he never learned about it because that might take more finessing than even she could muster.
Valentine didn't have time for whatever game Lana was playing. He didn't like it but Candy was the new Mrs. Mann.
They could all of 'em together keep on feuding for love or money but his daughter and his grandson decided Val's allegiance for him.
He put Lana right out of his mind but couldn't help noticing some funny business on his way back to the bar.
That sister of Mary's better watch herself. Guy behind her already had an entry stub.

But Dixie had it covered.
"Dude. See somethin' you like or somethin'?"

"This is kinda nice up here, you can see the whole town. All around!" Hamilton took in the panorama.
"Yeah, that's nice, Ham."

Penny wasn't interested in the view.

Not one to be outdone, Lana had not seen fit to leave just yet.
*No one ever comes into the little shop because nothing is set for sale yet so I was wondering what the hell...*

*...but despite the rebuff (and because of it) there were things going on that Lana did not need Valentine seeing.*

Penny didn't hang about.
It was chilly up there on the roof in the middle of winter but they didn't have any time to feel it.
After struggling to kick 'em off herself, Penny came up for air just once to give direction. "Boots," she grunted.

"Cold?"
"Nope."

Valentine had remarkable instincts!
They were right above his head; he recognised the rhythmic thumping.
But it was a busy night and from a quick glance around at the thinning crowd there were a few candidates for who could've coupled off and
sneaked up there. Val didn't much care, so long as they were done by the time he got ready to close up. Some things he didn't need to see.

See.
*Sorry, but Hamilton's O face? Just too funny.*
~

Dora'd had her fill of bunking down with the grands before she moved out to be with Weiss, and after last night she wasn't doin' that
again in a hurry. She made breakfast and all but didn't stick around much longer, she was eager to get back home, she found.
Dora had not cut off all her old penpals when she came to Widespot and a good deal it was.
At least those randy old geezers made her feel wanted.

Weiss wasn't around. That was...unexpected.
Maybe he didn't know it but Dora wasn't quite ready to give up on Skye yet.

She thought about it for a bit and after a quick change of clothes she decided to go stop in on Daytona.
"You mind if I talk to you? Woman to woman."
Daytona gave her a tentative go ahead but she wasn't sure where this was going.
"We're both women of a certain age, right, so I'm sure you're familiar with the occasional hitch in a man's get-up-and-go."
"Not lately." Daytona smirked, thinking first about Valentine.
Then the awkwardness washed over her when she remembered she was talking to Peter's mother!
"I'll bet. I don't trust them 'go' pills they manufacture nowadays but I was wonderin'...
you got any idea where I could get my hands on some horny goat weed 'round here?"
"I don't—does it grow in places like this? Is it even a real, uh, weed? If not, I can't help you. That stuff really works?"
"Like a charm."
"Really..." Daytona said, musing about what it could mean for the town if such a thing could be cultivated locally.

"Mind if I ask somethin' else, I mean, I ain't normally a nosy body but I guess I gotta know. When you and Weiss were workin' so
close gettin' the works up and runnin', is that, uh, is that the only thing y'all got up to? With his little crush on you didn't he ever...?"
"On me? Skye?"
"You didn't know that?"
"No," Daytona lied. Well. It wasn't so much a lie. More like...selective ignorance. "Are you sure?"
"Probably shouldn't have told you that then. He wouldn't like it. But I ain't the
jealous type and, well, you got other meat on your plate now. I just wondered."

"Worse comes to worst, you could always tie him to the bedposts with some of that rope behind me," Daytona joked.
Hmph. She could laugh, keepin' company with a man like that Valentine, but Dora sure didn't think it was so funny.

She pushed to get rid of Woody's old bed from their room but at the rate things were going this sharing a bed wasn't workin' out to her
advantage and instead o' bein' frustrated night after night seemed like she might need to invest in one of these instant air-filled thingamajigs.

It was real brisk out but that was fine by him when Woody settled in on the roof.
Saturdays were a crap shoot. The downtime was cool but it wasn't so cool that
he never had any plans or nothing to, like, look forward to for the weekend.
"Woody!"

Skye was back from his errand and he wanted to talk to his son.

"Dad?" Oh, crap, don't come up here! "Wait, I'm coming! I'm coming down!"

Eek.
Wow, was this gonna be awkward.

Ugh. Now what the hell was she doing here?

Thanks for reading! There is a Part Two, soon.
*Penny's meanness is pure Rhett-perception. She does only have the 3 nice points but considering he's got none...
**As a rule, I doubt Penny is a Taylor Swift kinda gal but I figure she's got her pop music guilty pleasures. I can just imagine her up in her room dancing around with Una and singing that song off-key.
And must thank/blame :-p
